The UBC MBA at the Sauder School of Business ranks in the Top 100 (#57) out of 2500 programs globally. I am responsible for the professional outcomes of graduate business students from acquisition to retention to migration including the development, delivery and management of career programs and services for the FT MBA program, the PT MBA program, and the Master of Management program, as well as alumni. Manage a program budget and lead a team of 4 career coaches and 1 support staff.
Played a central role in the development and launch of new MBA program curriculum. Developed a more integrated position for professional development activities through participation in the Advisory Board MBA program strategy committee and numerous curriculum, customer experience, and operational task forces.
Manage employment outcomes including the yearly facilitation of paid internships for 100+ MBAs (88% generated by careers team) and permanent employment opportunities for all graduate business students. Liaise with key corporate partners, foster ongoing relationships, and develop new opportunities locally, nationally and internationally.
Designed and developed innovative, for academic-credit, professional development and learning programs including leading or contributing to the organization of 100+ events per year. Programming includes:

The Bold Career Project is focused on helping our clients bring purpose and strategy to managing their careers. Since 2002, when I founded the service, we have been serving the job search, career change, career development, decision support, and personal marketing needs of our executive and management level clients. Bold Career delivers strategic and practical job search and career change services including expert resume writing and interview training and strategy to support you during your career transitions.
Wrote numerous articles for Monster on topics such as career assessment, career planning, career development and career management. Articles routinely sent to millions of newsletter subscribers.
Contributed as online career coach and moderator for Career Changers discussion board, and previously Management-level Careers discussion board.
Hired by the President to design a recruitment process outsourcing (RPO) offering for Workopolis job board customers. Developed a business plan and pricing plan in conjunction with VP Sales. Recruited a 30-person outsourced recruitment team and managed initial stages of operations during service launch
Promoted to lead a product group defined as "horizontal markets" with a team that ranged from 7-15. Responsibility included the executive job market, the self-employment market, the contractor / temp market, international job seekers and hiring, and virtual career fairs. Reported to the SVP, Product Management.
Drove the rationalization and integration of set of outlier products. Developed a strategy for each market, including business plans, competitive analysis, pricing development, partner evaluation and management and assessing acquisition candidates. Recommended the closure of the virtual career fair product and the integration of the talent market product into the broader contractor/temp database.
Defined product road maps and product requirement documents, negotiated with the CTO and worked with program managers and development leads to drive necessary product changes
Managed site changes with the creative and user experience teams. Wrote web copy and worked with the content team to design editorial calendars that developed job seeker traffic
Represented these markets to the marketing group including agency briefings, advertisement and marketing collateral editing and approval and trade show and promotions event planning
Contributed to numerous strategy teams and task forces related to acquisitions, parent company integration, internal process development and market positioning

As part of the acquisition of my start-up, joined the Ventures team in the CEO's office. Assigned to lead "Monster Talent Market", an online auction-style marketplace for free agent talent. The product had been previously launched in 07/99 and was Monster’s first attempt at a spin-off offering under the Monster brand. Managed a direct team of 3 and virtual team of 12 and reported to SVP, Ventures.
Developed the strategy and product direction and managed operations for what was essentially a start-up within Monster’s rapidly evolving corporate structure. Worked to build internal support and migrate the product from stand-alone to part of the central product offering of the company.

Evaluated potential acquisitions and partners as part of Ventures team. Co-developed a co-brand partnership worth $5million.
Built "free agent" (self-employed / independent contractor) membership from 90,000 to 200,000 and employer membership from 5,000 to 25,000 in 1 year
Inspired by an article in Fast Company magazine, resigned from my role at Caldwell to found an internet start-up focused on an online marketplace for senior professionals and fast-growth companies looking for key talent.
Built and designed an initial website and wrote the content that successfully garnered high rankings on Yahoo and other key directories and that attracted thousands of management and executive level candidates to the database
Wrote a manifesto centred on three themes: evolution in the talent market, the impact of the internet on hiring, and how labor market forces and enabling internet technologies was creating a generation of empowered, self-employed professionals. The manifesto gained the attention of online job board market leader, Monster.com.
Led initial conversations with Monster.com and subsequent acquisition negotiations. Sold company to Monster.com in 10/1999 and relocated to the Boston area.
Recruited after completion of MBA to Canada’s leading retained executive search firm. Clients covered virtually all major industries in Canada. Publicly-traded on the TSE, Caldwell (1998 $21M Revenue/$140M Market Cap).
Led the management and delivery of 200 executive search assignments at the Board, C-level, VP-level and Director-level in sectors that included high-tech, transportation/logistics, financial services, manufacturing and natural resources. Consulted with executive teams on talent needs and developed job descriptions and candidate specifications.
Sourced and assessed hard to acquire talent locally, nationally and internationally. Conducted 10,000+ phone conversations with targeted potential candidates, sources and references and personally interviewed 1,000+ senior candidates. Developed qualified candidate pools to present to clients.
Managed key account relationships amd developed new business at the C-level and VP-level, which contributed to a 200% increase in Vancouver-office revenue
Spearheaded the adoption of formal market strategy processes. Additionally introduced search project process improvements, innovative ways of presenting to clients and internet technologies for the sourcing of candidates.
Small trading company focused on marketing and distributing Canadian-manufactured outdoor recreation consumer products to the Japanese consumer market. Part of 4-person team that opened Canada's first retail store in Japan. Reported to the President.
Sourced North American outdoor recreational products (kayaks, canoes, outdoor clothing and gear, mountain bikes and accessories), managed supplier relationships and created Japan-focused promotional tools
Conducted market research in North America & Japan including trend tracking and product testing and consulted with suppliers on Japanese product development and pricing
Negotiated and project managed all international trade matters
Developed mail-order business plan and co-managed launch and product fulfillment
Heard they were there. Had to go see. Gabrielle and I had a beach side walk and came across (from a respectful distance) a male / female pair. Wow.
A belated post of a bread I made. The dough, full of chopped carrots, onions, etc. took some time to knead. However, it was worth it.
Seeing these creatures at Reifel Bird Sanctuary on Sunday was a fantastic experience.
